At Shotokan Karate Academy of Napa, we believe that martial arts training is not just about physical fitness, but also about mental and emotional growth. Our philosophy is based on the principles of respect, self-discipline, and perseverance. We strive to create a positive and supportive environment where students can learn and grow both on and off the mat. The Shotokan Karate Academy of Napa is a registered club of the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF), Pacific Northwest Region. More information about this region can be found at https://www.iskfnw.org.
We train our body to be strong, and our mind and spirit to be patient, in order to become the best human beings we can be. Karate is a spiritual endeavor, a way to develop a person as an individual. Everything we learn in the dojo, or training hall, should be applied to everyday life."
- Grand Master Teruyuki Okazaki
Sensei April Farnham-Morrison, Ni Dan (second degree blackbelt), has been practicing the art of Shotokan under ISKF for 9 years and providing instruction to both youth and adults since 2017. She trained under Senseis Chela Morales-Placone and Rick Placone of ISKF at their former dojo "ASK of Napa". She is currently enrolled in the ISKF Certified Instructor Training program.
“Having trained with Sensei April over the past several years, I appreciate how hard she works to build a dojo that’s inclusive of all levels of karate students, while also striving to ensure each member reaches their full potential in Shotokan karate”
– Chad Ullrich, student
